A REDDITCH golf club captain has raised more than £5,000 for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity in the past year.

Abs Rohomon, championed the charity during his captaincy at Abbey Golf Club after his daughter, Rachel, was born with congenital heart disease at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Congenital heart disease is a heart condition or defect that develops in the womb before a baby is born.

Rachel is now aged 13 and to show his appreciation for the dedication of staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Abs wanted to raise some funds through golf days, away days and donations from club members.

Abs said: “I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and friendliness of this amazing club, the number of people who have helped me both with financial support, gifts and sponsorship and for making the process of organising fundraising days such an amazing and rewarding experience.”

Nicky Langford, community fundraising officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity said: “We were thrilled to bits when Abs told us he’d chosen our charity for his captaincy year and were fortunate to meet his family and most of his golfing buddies at his formal handover back in April 2022.

“Support from our community is so important for our appeals and projects, we very much appreciate the support from Abs and his golf club.”
